Let me start by adding this quote: "Nobody ever did, or ever will, escape the consequences of his choices." - Alfred A. Montapert
For some people there are 100 maybe even more of options. It's all about taking chances and dealing with the consequences. But before that, it might be a good idea to take a look at something as easy as math. Probability theory! Before making a decision, taking chances, risking, I try to analyze what is the probability that something will happen or that the consequence of my choice will be something really bad.
Probability theory might be the thing that holds me back from taking all kind of spontaneous decisions, but at same time it prevents me from a lot of mistakes. It makes me more aware of the consequences, which I don't always fear, but I do have a certain respect for.
The very interesting part of life is that there is a balance between things. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose, but above all you learn.
If you never risk, you never gain, but just don't risk what you can't afford to lose! This is mostly about risking friendships, realtionships or even money.
No matter what your personal view on life is, in one way or another all of us get our punishment for things we do right or wrong. 'Cause what's right for you, might be wrong for someone else and by doing it, you might put someone else in a bad situation.
So.. are the easiest choices the ones that doesn't involve other people than ourselves?
No. There are simply no easy choices.
As one of my favorite Danish philosophers Soren Kierkegaard (1813-1855) wrote that no matter what you choose to do or choose not to do in life, you will end up regretting it, but he also said that:
“To dare is to lose one's footing momentarily. Not to dare is to lose oneself.”
So we all have to choose something, despite the fact that we might be regretting it later on, 'cause if we just remain at same place in life and never get to develop ourselves, then I guess we commit a crime against ourselves.
